Because of the trade routes Cairo is involved in many types of religions: Jewish, Christianity and Islamic. This three religions are the richest religions in the Middle East. Most people who live in Cairo are Muslim. In the seventh century, the Muslims conquered Egypt and moved the capital from Alexandria to a new city, Fustat, in present-day Cairo.90 percent of the Christians are Coptic, which was spread by the Romans. Most of Egypt's Jewish population has emigrated in the last fifty years to Israel or the United States.

Muhammad believe that he had been chosen by God to be a prophet, and that he was responsible for delivering God's message to humankind. He then decide to travel to Egypt to pass the message of God. These messages would eventually become the Qur'an. Muhammad continued to receive revelations from God for the next twenty-one years, until his death. As years went by more and more people begin to follow what Muhammad said, this people were know as Muslims. Egypt was the first place to have a great amount of followers and from there on the religion was spread by the people.
